Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) and Posterior Cervical Discectomy Fusion (PCDF) involve a type of neck surgery removing the damaged disc to alleviate pain. ACDF can treat trauma, degenerative disorders, tumors and instability of the spine. This particular procedure is only recommended when all other options, such as physical therapy, pain medication, nerve sheath injections, neck collars, etc. have been exhausted and proven ineffective.
A decompression, or discectomy, cuts out the disc from anywhere along the spine from the cervical (neck) to the back (lumbar). The disc removal will leave a space between the vertebrae, requiring a spacer bone graft to prevent collapse or friction from rubbing together. This also fuses the spine back together.
As an alternative to fusion, there are artificial disc replacements that preserve motion. These are used to preserve motion, versus the fusion which will eliminate motion. Your Bonex Klinik will recommend the appropriate treatment for you.
Discectomy
Candidates may qualify for ACDF if he or she has: degenerative or herniated discs, dull pain or significant weakness in the arm and hand, or if symptoms have not improved over time with medication or physical therapy.
Expert surgeons at Bonex Klinik have various methods of easing pressure on the spinal cord. A consultation will assist you with moving forward to get exactly what you need.
