Meet Professor Zimmermann
Professor Dr. med. Gerald Zimmermann is an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon, educator, and researcher. Born in 1965, he studied medicine at the Universities of Erlangen, Mannheim, and Houston, Texas, and earned his PhD and habilitation in Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery from the University of Heidelberg. Since 2009, he has held a professorship at Heidelberg and, since 2013, has been the Head of the Orthopedic and Traumatology Department at Theresienkrankenhaus Mannheim, a teaching hospital of the University of Heidelberg.
Areas of Expertise
Professor Zimmermann holds multiple specializations in general surgery, orthopedics, trauma surgery, and sports medicine. He is also a certified chiropractor and emergency medicine physician. His clinical training spans top institutions, including the University Medical Centre Mannheim and the BG Trauma Center Ludwigshafen.

Research & Academic Contributions
Professor Zimmermann is a global expert in the regeneration of musculoskeletal tissues. His research on growth factors and the clinical application of adult stem cells in cartilage and bone regeneration has earned widespread recognition. He has delivered over 500 scientific lectures and has received numerous awards, including the Herbert Lauterbach Prize (2009).
He leads several international Phase III studies on cartilage regeneration and is a frequent instructor of global “center of excellence” courses in stem cell application. His work bridges the gap between cutting-edge research and practical surgical application.
Teaching & International Recognition
Professor Zimmermann is authorized to provide full clinical and academic training in Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery in Germany. Since 2006, he has also served as the orthopedic consultant and department head at the German Medical Center in DHCC and holds a valid Dubai license.
